Alleyn, Edward 1566-1626
English actor

Born in London, he was a contemporary of Shakespeare, and acted in many of Christopher Marlowe's plays. He founded Dulwich College (1619) and deposited in its library documents relating to his career (including the Diary of Philip Henslowe, whose stepdaughter he married), which give a unique insight into the financial aspects of Elizabethan theatre.
