Amiel, Henri Frédéric 1821-81
Swiss philosopher and writer

Born in Geneva, he became Professor of Aesthetics (1849) and of Moral Philosophy (1853-81) at the Academy of Geneva. He published some essays and poems, but his fame as an intellectual and critic rests on his diaries (1847 onwards), published posthumously as Journal intime (1883, 'Private Journal').
