Antiochus I, called Soter c.323-c.261BC
Seleucid King of Syria

He was the son of Seleucus I, one of Alexander the Great's generals, whose murder (280BC) gave him the whole Syrian Empire, but left him too weak to assert his right to Macedonia. He gained the name of Soter ('Saviour') for a victory over the Gauls (275BC).
