Bell, Vanessa, née Stephen 1879-1961
English painter and decorative designer
Born in Kensington, London, she was the daughter of Sir Leslie Stephen and elder sister of Virginia Woolf, and a leading member of the Bloomsbury Group. She married the critic Clive Bell in 1907, but left him in 1916 to live with Duncan Grant, a fellow-contributor to Roger Fry's Omega Workshops (1913-20). She exhibited four pictures in her decorative style (influenced by Henri Matisse) in the second Post-Impressionist Exhibition in 1912. Elected to the London Group in 1919, she exhibited with them regularly from 1920.

A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
