Ben-Gurion, David, originally David Gruen 1886-1973
Israeli statesman
Born in Plonsk, Poland, he emigrated to Palestine in 1906. Expelled by the Turks during World War I, he recruited Jews to the British Army in North America. In Palestine in 1919 he founded a socialist party and became Secretary to the Histadrut in 1921. He led the Mapai (Labour) Party from its formation in 1930 and headed the Jewish Agency in 1935. Ben-Gurion moulded the Mapai into the main party of the Yishuv during British rule and became Prime Minister after independence (1948-53), when he was responsible for Israel absorbing large numbers of refugees from Europe and Arab countries. He was Prime Minister again from 1955 to 1963.

A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
