Boyle, Charles, 4th Earl of Orrery 1676-1731
Irish Jacobite soldier and writer

He edited the spurious Letters of Phalaris, satirized by Jonathan Swift in his Battle of the Books (1704). He fought at the Battle of Malplaquet (1709), helped to negotiate the Treaty of Utrecht (1713), and was imprisoned in the Tower of London as a Jacobite (1721). The 'orrery', a kind of planetarium, was named in his honour by the inventor, George Graham. His grandfather was Roger Boyle.
