Chamberlain, Sir (Joseph) Austen 1863-1937
English politician and Nobel Prize winner

The eldest son of Joseph Chamberlain, he was Chancellor of the Exchequer (1903-06, 1919-21), Secretary for India (1915-17), a member of Lloyd-George's War Cabinet, Lord Privy Seal, Leader of the House and Unionist leader (1921-22). As Foreign Secretary (1924-29), he was made Knight of the Garter in 1925, and shared with Charles G Dawes the 1925 Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating the Locarno Pact.
