Duncan I c.1010-1040
King of Scots

He was the son of Bethoc and Crinan, Abbot of Dunkeld, and the grandson of Malcolm II. He succeeded to Strathclyde in 1034 and probably ruled over most of Scotland except the islands and the far north. He attempted southwards expansion, and a long and unsuccessful siege of Durham weakened his position. He was killed by Macbeth at Pitgaveney, near Elgin.
