Edward, St called Edward the Martyr c.963-978
Anglo-Saxon King of England

The elder son of King Edgar, he succeeded to the throne at the age of 12 (975). His accession provoked rival claims on behalf of his younger half-brother, Ethelred II, the Unready, and in 978 he was treacherously murdered by Ethelred's household at Corfe Castle in Dorset. He was canonized in 1001.
