Eleanor of Provence 1223-91
Daughter of Raymond Berengar IV, Count of Provence

In 1236 she married Henry III of England but alienated the barons by advancing her foreign uncles to high office. In the Barons' War (1264) she raised an army of mercenaries in France to support her husband, but her invasion fleet was wrecked. After the accession of her son, Edward I, she retired to a convent.
