Italian anatomist

Born in Acquapendente, he studied at Padua under Gabriele Falloppius and succeeded him as Professor of Anatomy there (1562). One of his pupils was William Harvey. A remarkable anatomist of his time, and a pioneer of modern embryology, he studied foetal development, the function of the larynx as a vocal organ and the changing size of the pupil in the eye.
