Fauré, Gabriel Urbain 1845-1924
French composer

Born in Pamiers, he became organist (1896) at La Madeleine, Paris, and director of the Conservatoire (1905-20). Though he is chiefly remembered for his songs, including 'Aprčs un ręve' (c.1865), he also wrote operas and orchestral pieces, such as Masques et bergamasques (1919, 'Masks and Bergamasks'), and a requiem (1887-90).
