Fechner, Gustav Theodor 1801-87
German physicist, psychologist and philosopher
Born in Gross-Särchen, near Halle, he studied medicine at the University of Leipzig but took up physics as a career and became Professor of Physics at Leipzig in 1834. He worked mainly on galvanism (the original term for current electricity), electromagnetism and colour. He then became interested in the connections between physiology and psychology, which he explored in his Elemente der Psychophysik (1860), and helped to formulate the Weber-Fechner law relating stimuli to sensations. He also published Das Büchlein vom Leben nach dem Tode (1836) and Vorschule der Aesthetik (1876). His psychophysics later evolved into experimental psychology through Wilhelm Max Wundt and others.

A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
