Ferrabosco, Alfonso c.1575-1628
English composer

Born in Greenwich, London, the son of Alfonso Ferrabosco, he was in the service of James VI and I and Charles I. He wrote music for masques, songs and, most notably, for viol consorts, showing his impressive grasp of counterpoint and invention. His sons Alfonso (c.1610-c.1660), Henry (c.1615-c.1658) and John (1626-82) all held court appointments.
