Scottish painter

Born in Rothiemurchus, Inverness, he studied at the Westminster and Slade School of Art, London, and in Italy and Paris. He was associated with Roger Fry's Omega Workshops, and later with the London Group. His works were mainly landscapes, portraits and still-life, but he also designed textiles and pottery. His Girl at the Piano is in the Tate Gallery, London. Through his cousin, Lytton Strachey, he became friends with many of the Bloomsbury Group. He collaborated on many projects with Vanessa Bell, with whom he lived for many years.
