Gurney, Sir Goldsworthy 1793-1875
English inventor

He was born in Treator, near Padstow, Cornwall. He studied medicine and practised in Wadebridge, Cornwall, and in London, but gave up to work on scientific problems. He devised an improved limelight known as the 'Drummond light', and built a series of steam carriages, one of which in 1829 travelled from London to Bath and back at the rate of 15mph (24.1kph).
