Harry, Blind fl.1470-92
Scottish poet

Blind from birth, he lived by telling tales, and from 1490 to 1492 was at the court of James IV, receiving occasional small gratuities. His major known work is Wallace, on the life of the Scottish patriot William Wallace, written in rhyming couplets. The language is frequently obscure, but the work is written with vigour, sometimes breaking into poetry. The poem transfers to its hero some of the achievements of Robert the Bruce, and contains many mistakes or misrepresentations, but much of the narrative can bear the test of historical criticism.
