Holroyd, Michael de Courcy Fraser 1935-

He was born in London, and studied sciences at Eton, and literature at Maidenhead Public Library. His first book was Hugh Kingsmill: a critical biography (1964). His two-volume life of Lytton Strachey, The Unknown Years (1967) and The Year of Achievement (1968), is recognized as a landmark in biographical writing as it revived interest in the genre and in the Bloomsbury Group. He is the official biographer of George Bernard Shaw, with The Search for Love (1988), The Pursuit of Power (1989), The Lure of Fantasy (1991), The Last Laugh (1992) and The Shaw Companion (1992).
