James, son of Zebedee, also known as St James, the Great 1st century AD
One of the 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ

Born in Galilee, Palestine, he is often listed with John (his brother) and Peter in the group closest to Jesus Christ, who were among the first to be called, and who were with him at the Transfiguration and at Gethsemane. James and John were called Boanerges ('sons of thunder'). According to Acts 12.2, James was martyred under Herod Agrippa I (c.44AD). His feast day is 25 July.
