Jugurtha d.104BC
King of Numidia

By the murder of his cousin, Hiempsal, he secured a part of the kingdom of his grandfather Masinissa, and, according to Sallust, bribed the Roman senate to support him (116BC). He soon invaded his surviving cousin Adherbal's part of the kingdom, besieged him in Cirta (112BC), and put him, and the Romans who were with him, to death, thus beginning the Jugarthine War, in which the Romans twice attempted to defeat him, until finally, in 106BC, Jugurtha had to flee to the King of Mauretania, who delivered him to Sulla. He was left to die in prison in Rome.
