Körner, Karl Theodor 1791-1813
German lyric poet

Born in Dresden, he wrote plays and fiery patriotic songs such as Leier und Schwert (1814, 'Lyre and Sword'), which contained the Schwert-Lied ('Sword Song'), written shortly before his death in battle during the Napoleonic Wars, a patriotic end which inflated his literary reputation.
