Malcolm III, called Canmore, from Gaelic Ceann-mor ('Great Head') c.1031-1093
King of Scotland

He was a child when his father, King Duncan I, was killed by Macbeth (1040). He stayed in Northumbria with his uncle, Earl Siward, who established him (1054) in Cumbria and Lothian. In 1057, after Macbeth was killed, Malcolm became King of all Scotland. In 1069 he married Margaret, sister of Edgar the Ćtheling. He invaded England five times (1061-1093), and was killed at Alnwick. He left five sons, of whom four succeeded him, Duncan, Edgar, Alexander and David.
