Margaret, Maid of Norway 1283-90
Queen of Scotland

The granddaughter of Alexander III of Scotland, she was the only child of King Erik II of Norway. When Alexander III died (1286), she was the only direct survivor of the Scottish royal line. In 1289 she was betrothed to the infant Prince Edward (the future Edward II of England), son of Edward I, but she died at sea in Orkney the following year on her way from Norway to England.
