Iranian statesman

Born in Teheran, he held office in Iran in the 1920s, and returned to politics in 1944. By his Oil Nationalization Act of 1951 (in which year he became Prime Minister), he claimed to have expropriated the Anglo-Iranian Oil Co. His government was overthrown by a royalist uprising in 1953, and he was imprisoned. He was released in 1956.
