Pepusch, Johann Christoph 1667-1752
German composer and musical theorist

Born in Berlin, he was appointed to the Prussian court at the age of 14. Settling in London in 1704, he is best known as the arranger of the music for John Gay's The Beggar's Opera (1728) from popular and traditional sources. Pepusch was a prolific composer of music for the theatre and church as well as of instrumental works.
