Philip I 1052-1108
King of France

The son of Henri I, he ruled from 1060. Although he increased royal wealth, his reign marked a low point in the prestige of the Capetian monarchy, largely due to his elopement with Bertrada, wife of Fulk of Anjou, a scandal which led to his excommunication. Extreme obesity caused him to allow his son Louis VI to administer the kingdom from 1104.
