Phillips, Mark Anthony Peter 1948-
Former husband of Princess Anne
Born in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, he was educated at Marlborough and Sandhurst, joining the Queen's Dragoon Guards in 1969. In 1973 he married Princess Anne, but separated from her in 1989; they were divorced in 1992. A noted horseman, he was a regular member of the British Equestrian Team (1970-76), and won many team events, including the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Munich (1972). He was coach for the US three day event team (1993-96) and has been consultant for the Gleneagles Mark Phillips Equestrian Centre in Scotland since 1992.
