Pisano, Andrea, also called Andrea da Pontedera c.1270-1349
Italian sculptor

Born in Pontedera, he became famous as a worker in bronze and marble, and settled in Florence, where he completed the earliest bronze doors of the Baptistery (1336), and in 1337 succeeded Giotto as chief artist in the Cathedral. In 1347 he became chief artist in the cathedral at Orvieto, working on reliefs and statues.
