Seleucus I Nicator ('the Conqueror') c.358-281BC
Macedonian general, founder of the Seleucid dynasty
After the death of Alexander the Great (323BC) he rose from being Governor of Babylonia (321) to being the ruler of an empire (312) which stretched from Asia Minor to India. He assumed the title of king in 305, and founded a new, more central capital at Antioch in northern Syria (300). He defeated two successive rivals, Antigonus I at Ipsus (301) and Lysimachus at Corupedium (281). A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
