Seneca, Marcus Annaeus, called Seneca the Elder c.55BC-c.40AD
Roman rhetorician

He was born in Corduba (Cordoba), Spain, and educated at Rome. In addition to a history of Rome, which is now lost, he wrote for his sons a collection of imaginary court cases, Oratorum et Rhetorum Sententiae, Divisiones, Colores Controversiae (partly lost), and Suasoriae, a collection of earlier, rhetorical styles. He was the father of Lucius Annaeus Seneca and grandfather of Lucan.
