Sforza, Francesco 1401-66
Duke of Milan
The illegitimate son of Muzio Attendolo Sforza, he was the father of Galeazzo Maria and Ludovico Sforza. He sold his sword to the highest bidder, fighting for or against the pope, Milan, Venice and Florence. When he married the Duke of Milan's daughter in 1450, he became heir to the duchy; and before his death he had extended his power over Ancona, Pesaro, all Lombardy and Genoa.

Search Tip
