Sickingen, Franz von 1481-1523
German knight
Born in Ebernburg, near Kreuznach, he fought against the Venetians for Emperor Maximilian I (1508). In peace he led the life of a soldier of fortune and amassed considerable wealth. He supported the election of Charles V as Holy Roman Emperor (1519) and fought for him in his French campaign (1521). Ulrich von Hutten, the German humanist, was his constant guest from 1520, and he became a leader of the Lutheran Reformation, declaring a Protestant war against the Archbishop of Trier in 1522. Defeated, he died besieged at his castle of Landstuhl.

A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
