Signac, Paul 1863-1935
French artist

He was born in Paris. He exhibited with the Impressionists in 1884 and was later associated with Henri Edmond Cross (1856-1910) and Georges Seurat in the Neo-Impressionist movement. Signac, however, used mosaic-like patches of pure colour, as compared with Seurat's Pointillist dots. He published D'Eugčne Delacroix au Néo-impressionisme, in which he sought to establish a scientific basis for his Divisionist theories (1899).
