Stauffenberg, Count Claus von 1907-44
German soldier

He was born in Bavaria. He was a colonel on the General Staff, and initially a supporter of Hitler, but he became alienated by Nazi brutality. He planted a bomb in the unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Hitler at his headquarters at Rastenburg on 20 July 1944. He was shot in the evening of the same day.
