Stewart or Stuart
Scottish noble family

The royal line of the (Stuart) sovereigns of Scotland, and later of Great Britain and Ireland, from Robert II of Scotland (1371) to Queen Anne (1714) is descended from this family. The original family was descended from a Breton immigrant, Alan Fitzflaald (d.c.1114), who received the lands of Oswestry in Shropshire from Henry I. His elder son was William Fitzalan (c.1105-60).
