Trevelyan, Sir George Otto Trevelyan, 2nd Baronet 1838-1928
English politician
The son of Sir Charles Edward Trevelyan (1807-86) and Hannah Moore, the sister of Lord Macaulay, he was born in Rothley Temple, Leicestershire, and educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge. He entered parliament in 1865 as a Liberal and became a Lord of the Admiralty (1868-70), Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty (1880-82), Chief Secretary for Ireland (1882-84) and Secretary for Scotland (1886, 1892-95). He wrote a number of historical works, among them a life of his uncle, Lord Macaulay (1876-1908), a life of Charles James Fox (1880), and the American Revolution (1909).
