Tromp, Cornelis Maartenzoon 1629-91
Dutch naval commander

He was the son of Maarten Tromp. He shared the glory of Michiel de Ruyter's Four Days' Battle (1666) off Dunkirk, and won fame in the battles against the combined English and French fleets (7 and 14 June 1673). On a visit to England in 1675 he was created baron by Charles II and was appointed Lieutenant-Governor of the United Provinces (1676).
