Alexander Severus AD208-35
Roman emperor

He was the cousin and adopted son of Heliogabalus, whom he succeeded in AD222. A weak ruler, under the influence of others, especially his mother, he failed to control the military. Though successful against the Sassanid Artaxerxes (233), he and his mother were murdered by mutinous troops during a campaign against the Germans. Fifty years of political and military instability in the Roman Empire followed his death.
