Queen consort of Edward VII of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Born in Copenhagen, the eldest daughter of King Kristian IX of Denmark, she married Edward (1863) when he was Prince of Wales. She engaged in much charity work: she founded the Imperial (Royal) Military Nursing Service (1902), and instituted the annual Alexandra Rose Day in aid of hospitals (1912).
