Arnim, Achim von, real name Karl Joachim Friedrich Ludwig von Arnim 1781-1831
German writer

Born in Berlin, he was the author of fantastic but original romances. He stirred up a warm sympathy for old popular poetry and folk-tales, and published over 20 volumes, mainly tales and novels, including the folk-song collection Des Knaben Wunderhorn (1806, 'The Boy's Magic Horn') with Clemens von Brentano. His writing is overtly moralistic and his most ambitious work is the unfinished novel Die Kronenwächter (1817, 'The Crown Minder'). His wife, Bettina (1785-1859), Brentano's sister, was as a girl infatuated with Goethe, and afterwards published a (largely fictitious) Correspondence with him, as well as 10 volumes of tales and essays.
