Arnim, Achim von, real name Karl Joachim Friedrich Ludwig von Arnim 1781-1831
German writer

Born in Berlin, he was the author of fantastic but original romances. He stirred up a warm sympathy for old popular poetry and folk-tales, and published over 20 volumes, mainly tales and novels, including the folk-song collection Des Knaben Wunderhorn (1806, 'The Boy's Magic Horn') with Clemens von Brentano. His writing is overtly moralistic and his most ambitious work is the unfinished novel Die Kronenw�chter (1817, 'The Crown Minder'). His wife, Bettina (1785-1859), Brentano's sister, was as a girl infatuated with Goethe, and afterwards published a (largely fictitious) Correspondence with him, as well as 10 volumes of tales and essays.
