Blair, Robert 1699-1746
Scottish poet and preacher

Born in Edinburgh and educated at Edinburgh University, he was ordained minister of Athelstaneford, East Lothian, in 1731. He is best known as the author of The Grave (1743), a blank-verse poem which heralded the 'churchyard school' of poetry. The 1808 edition was illustrated by William Blake.
