Bruce VII, Robert de 1253-1304
Scottish nobleman

The eldest son of Robert de Bruce, 5th Lord of Annandale, he is said to have accompanied Edward I of England on crusade to Palestine (1269). He married Marjory, Countess of Carrick (1271), and thus became Earl of Carrick, but resigned the earldom (1292) to his eldest son, Robert Bruce, the future King Robert I. On the death of his father (1295) he did homage to Edward for his English lands, was made constable of Carlisle, and fought for the English against John de Balliol. On Balliol's defeat he applied to Edward for the Crown of Scotland, but was refused it.
