Bruce VI, Robert de, 5th Lord of Annandale 1210-95
Scottish nobleman

He did homage to Henry III (1251), and was made Sheriff of Cumberland and Constable of Carlisle. When the Scottish throne became vacant at the death (1290) of Margaret, Maid of Norway, granddaughter of Alexander III, John de Balliol and Bruce claimed the succession. Edward I of England decided in favour of Balliol (1292). To avoid swearing fealty to his successful rival, Bruce resigned Annandale to his eldest son, Robert de Bruce (1253-1304).
