Börne, Ludwig, originally Löb Baruch 1786-1838
German political writer and satirist

He was born in Frankfurt, of Jewish descent, and edited various journals (1812-21), establishing his reputation asa vigorous opponent of the Prussian government, and inciting the German people to revolution and social reform. The French revolution of July 1830 drew him to Paris, where he finally settled in 1832. He and Heinrich Heine who wrote critical articles on his political views, became bitterly hostile to each other.
