Campion, Thomas 1567-1620
English physician, poet and composer

Born in Witham, Essex, he studied at Cambridge and abroad, and set his own lyrics to music. As well as poetry in Latin and English he left several books of 'ayres' for voice and lute. He also wrote a treatise, Observations in the Art of English Rhyme (1602).
