Carlos, Don 1788-1855
Spanish pretender

Born in Madrid, he was the second son of Charles IV of Spain. On the accession of his niece Isabella II (1833), he asserted his claim to the throne, and was supported by the Church, but he was defeated by the liberals in the first Carlist War (1834-39) and went into exile.
