Catherine, St d.307AD
Egyptian royal virgin

Tradition maintains she was born in Alexandria. She is said to have publicly confessed the Gospel at a sacrificial feast appointed by Emperor Maximinus, and was consequently beheaded, after being tortured on a spiked wheel (later known as a 'catherine' wheel). Her remains were miraculously transported to Mount Sinai, where her shrine is on display in St Catherine's monastery. Her feast day is 25 November.
