Born at Carlton House, London, the only daughter of George IV and Caroline of Brunswick, who separated immediately after her birth, she was the heir to the British throne, and was brought up in strict seclusion. In 1816 she married Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg, the future Leopold I of Belgium and uncle of Victoria. She died in childbirth.
