Condé, Louis I de Bourbon, Prince de 1530-69
French nobleman and Huguenot leader
Born in Vendôme, he was the younger brother of Antony of Bourbon, King of Navarre. Although a hunchback, he fought in the wars between Henri II of France and Spain (1551-57), and joined the Huguenots on the accession of Francis II (1559). He led the Huguenots during the French Wars of Religion and was defeated at Dreux during the first civil war (1562). In the second war (1567-69) he was defeated at Jarnac, taken prisoner, and shot.
