Coote, Sir Eyre 1726-83
Anglo-Irish soldier
He was born in Ash Hill, County Limerick. He entered the army early and saw service in Scotland, and from 1756 to 1762 served in India. It was he who induced Robert Clive to risk the Battle of Plassey (1757). In 1760 he defeated Thomas, Comte de Lally (1702-66), at Wandiwash and his capture of Pondicherry in 1761 completed the downfall of the French in India. In 1777 he became Commander-in-Chief in India, and in 1781, his rout of Haidar Ali at Porto Novo saved the presidency again.

A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
